the CBLC Pub Manyzer

The misspelling is a reference from "Money not Enough too" by Jack Neo.

But yeah, it's my year four and I'm an RA, I don't even need a point to stay anymore, and why the heck am I still the Pub Manager for NUSSU CBLC after all this tiredness? Taking up this position has caused me till up to few days ago: nothing but complaints, masked expression to the rest of the committee, the feeling of unfairness, and more exhaustion and stress.
"can't be helped, because the previous Pub Manager doesn't want to take the job anymore and no one else was willing to" I said, "So, it's like kena arrowed"
"Furthermore, Mike was like, 'nonk, if you go for it, I'll apply as an MC as well!'.. So it was another point of persuasion, more people you know more fun mah"

But, probably it's the bean's thingy that forced me to take up the job. I felt somewhat obligated (read: burdened) to do something for CBLC. I don't need to know about who voted for whom, or how others feel about me, but CBLC is an organization, a totality of the members and I'm serving the organization. Not the chairman or other members of the Managing Committee.

This is the least that I can do, which is to become the CBLC pub manager. Wish me luck till the end of my term. Till I graduate~!

WEW2

A beautiful being, my new love

every time I'm drowned in my boredom,
she's always there to lighten the air

every time I feel I've seen enough,
she shows me magnificent perspective to view

every time I lost my appetite on this noisy life
her voice resembles thousands of pleasant songs that cheer me up

I knew it from the start,
When I first saw her,
I knew she'd be the one
When I gently touched her,
she gave me new feel

All that magnificent look she possesses,
that sleek figure and fabulous skin,
All that stunning wit she's proud of,
that exciting and intelligent brain,
it's of no wonder another thousand would desire her.

Now she's by my side,
I want to be with her everywhere I go,
I want everyone to see how fine she is,
and let envy be in them as I display my affection to her,
and she, hers to me.

Now with her the world is so bright,
Let it be known, that my love has been occupied,
to her

Medan and non-Medan

"it takes two hands to clap"
That's a phrase used to describe a stand of view where in Singapore, where the service standard is quite low, the phrase rose to explain that Customers also play a role in achieving good service standards.
I learned that in one of my modules, and now this is to describe a few cents from me, regarding why is Medan so unlikable among non-Medan freshmen.

From few conversations I had few days ago, and from previous years' experiences, Medan has always been associated with aliens of Indonesians by the rests of the Indonesian community, and we are talking about the one in NUS. Applicable probably only for Chinese Medanese.
Why? Because, the abundant usage of hokkian, as an alternate spoken mother tounge other than Bahasa Indonesia in Medan, where Chinese Medanese might use more hokkian then Bahasa in one day, the way we speak our Bahasa are pretty much affected by that.
So, it's kind of easy to distinguish Medanese from the Indonesian community.

Here, Medanese are considered as separatists in the community. This is because to the above-mentioned fact that Medanese use so much hokkien that it feels so awkward to speak in Bahasa with fellow Medanese. While, bringing out the other fact that only very very tiny portion of non-Medan people understands hokkian, Medanese are often regarded as separatists because they like to communicate with each other with hokkian and thus, most of the time, not understood by the others. Probably it's like a whole new language to the others and the others are not feeling so comfortable, to blend in with Medanese when they use such unfamiliar language among themselves.

Me, myself, wasn't of any much difference, when I was a freshmen, despite of others' existence, I preferred to talk in hokkien when I was with Thomas, dank or Jessica, and I did feel that I was regarded as separatist. I tried to change the habit and was trying to bring the same message to this year's freshmen, as I mentioned via that casual conversation I had with the Medan freshmen. Well, they raised that indeed, they felt that they were somehow excluded from the others. I shall not mention names yet, but a freshman narrated to me that during his cell group with the rest of the Indons with less Medanese inside, one of the rest expressed that one of the thing she didn't like about Singapore is that there are Indons who speak "Medan" language. The freshman, felt offended and probably till now holds a dislike against her.

"It's not us who want to be separatists," They said, "We've tried our best to mingle with them, and of course we use Bahasa to communicate with them".
"But, sometimes, their mocking us (like how we misspell some words, use Bahasa in different intonations, etc.) makes us felt annoyed as well; since we've also tried our best to use our Bahasa".

These two lines made me came to this post and the phrase "it takes two to clap".
My stand is that, we Medanese, some of us indeed had persevere to adapt and blend into Indonesians as general despite the "different traits" that we have, However, it won't be enough for us to do so, unless the rest are also open and supportive.
I'm aware that some address those as a joke but some of the others might take it uncomfortably, or probably there are indeed some of the others who are not really fine with Medanese and the "different traits", and there goes my point: with such existence, the adaptation process will be hindered.

Especially this year is even worse because the Medan freshmen has got enough number to stay in their own group while in my case it was only 4 of us. There is larger chance for them to be in their own group, while 4 wouldn't be an enough number for social relationships.
But, probably, I'm just worrying about nothing because I also believe, partially, that as time goes on, everything will just somehow workout.

*Hopefully*.. So, all the best

She's back!

I can:
-get back to my dreams; or
-get back to real life and start forgetting about my dreams; or
-get back to real life and start realizing my dreams.

sorted from the most to the least likely to happen

Freshman-kind and Senior-ship

Not a very valid vocabulary used for the title for this post, Where the abstract-noun form of senior could have been "seniority" and I can't really find the correct word for "freshman", so there they go, containing the implication of the state of being a freshman/senior along with their respective community. *yeah whatever*

But yeah, recently, This so-called-three-month-holiday a period on which you learn more intangible things, this time, other than internship (oh yeah, damn, haven't posted about internship), and some regular annual Matric Fair and RA's Welcome Fest, We'll talk about "orientation": in other words for seniors, engagement with freshmen (like getting to know them, sharing your precious knowledge with them, and stuffs)

There's this kind of spell from the freshmen that makes the seniors try to get the freshmen's attention. I'm not sure what that spell is but, the seniors are so blinded and attracted by the freshmen, and the seniors who are supposed to be busy with all kinds of other things, surprisingly put orientation in higher priority than those all kinds of other things, or maybe even the trivia things that you do with those seniors, as your friends.

Well, what I'm speculating here is not any spell that is really the matter, but the need for attention or cultivating new relationships with new people, which is apparently an urge for most of the seniors here. I see it less in female seniors, but I'm guessing, this year, the male seniors got attracted by some very very fanciful or attractive female freshmen, and of course, to be able to socialize with those freshmen and not to look so obvious that you are so interested with them, the seniors approach the interesting freshmen along with other fellow freshmen as a group.

Of course it is acceptable for seniors to be interested to some of the attractive fellas, I can't deny that there are indeed these attractive bunches, but when you start to divide yourselves into groups, and say "oh I have OG(Orientation Group) outing"; or "I'm taking lunch with my OG, he's having lunch with his"; the seniors, which are normally the OG leaders, has the image of getting more and more separated, just because they want to get more attention from their OGs..

Worse, when you start to take leave days, or forgot about your priorities, just because you want to be in the OG and participate in the orientation program. For goodness' sake, we are seniors and we are supposed to know our priorities, when the seniors are in a managing committee of a club, and on one of these crucial periods of clubs being in need of manpower, and the senior bearing the unspoken responsibility to be the manpower in need, chose OG programs or events over this resposibility.

I can't say I didn't enjoy the orientation, I was having fun, relieving all of my stress after my last day of internship that time, and got to know few freshmen. I tried to get their attention too, yeah, for another reason, so that they can participate in the Welcome Fest or any other affiliations I'm in. I'm not sure about my feelings right now, but I'm one of those who look for attention but I don't enjoy too much of it. True, maybe, that I wish to get close to maybe one or two cute looking freshmen and open my chance to getting myself into a relationship *wtf am I talking about*, but, another maybe, too bad, probably I'm not so much of a attention seeker kind of guy. I prefer, left4dead or dota to spending my time with freshmen, esp. girls, when I don't really have anything to say to them.
The word is: "can't really be bothered".

Ok I digressed but, yes, things like tense moments during the orientation itself because the organizing committee had the internal conflict which I was and am not really aware of; tense moments between a member of the committee and one of the group leaders; seniors getting less so close as before anymore because they channel more of their attention to the freshmen; forgotten priorities; and probably *sincere apologies for getting frank*, the fact that orientation may be treated as the opportunity to getting freshmen to particular fellowships; etc.
All these things are prone to happen, some of them are wrong, some of them might not be wrong but they are just not according to my principals.

Orientations should be a means to get your people together, but what I've seen this year, are that seniors are too thirsty of attention and that there are invisible cracks (I'm not sure but I have a gut feeling that they exist, that's why it's "invisible") that is on the surface of relationships among seniors.
I'm happy to have known that there are new people on my facebook contact list that I can refer as new acquaintances or friends, and I hope that those new people have benefited from us, seniors. But I also hope that we, seniors, can get our visions straight again, if you think what I've said is reasonable.

If you feel that I've said too much on this time's post and you may feel that I'm talking about one of you, I may be indeed talking about you, and I apologize for some of the parts which may have seemed as unpleasant but this is my honest opinion I'm writing.

back to harsh posts

Fuck.. I don't feeling committing, when everyone else is not putting their hearts into it.
Theoretically, to make it more dramatic, or more politically correctly, normally you will say to yourself: "No man, you should be the one who brings up everybody's spirit up, so that they will be willing to contribute"

what the fuck, what a nonsense, why not we phrase it like, "Hey people, get up and move your arses and get them working, I was arrowed and forced to take the job, but at least I still tried my best to fulfill my responsibility, you guys volunteered to take yours, so why not show MORE?"

wtf. Things are so unorganized:
few weeks ago, things like
"eh, how come you don't have the centre keys?"
wtf, no one told me that I'm supposed to hold a key, in fact nobody gave me no keys till when I asked for it.
---or---
"I wasn't informed of this"; "really? yeah, actually your chair is the liaison, he should have passed you all the documents right?"
---or---
"so who's in charge of welcome tea?"
it was so near, and no one was assigned till recently, wtf.
---or---
"oh william, can you go and liaise with them and get back to me by friday?"
Yeah, why does publicity get more shit?
---or---
"eh william, how come nobody's helping you for the decoration? how come you are on duty basically everyday all slots?"
too bad, nobody wants to commit.
---or---
"eh I saw the email, but forgot to reply, so I'm not doing duty"
If I don't reply, the rest no reply? Ghosts jaga the centres ah?
---or---
"so you don't know the password for the admin account? who does?"
---or---
"where's the LCD for the printjob status?"
fuck how do i know.. now where's the cashcard machine? who's the liaison with comcen or whatever? We can delay everything just because there's a construction now can we?
---or---
"I'm jaga-ing my booth for other CCA"
for godness' sake! you are the management committee.. Set your priorities man

really, I wasn't expecting such un-professional-ism and such low level of commitment. In RA job, we are expected to take leave even from our internship to support our events. Nobody seemed willing to take any during matric fair. I wasted my time just for preps and taking care of the booth for the whole slots. Some people just do what they were told to and there is no initiative from the rest to ask what are still there to be done, what are the things which are unfinished.
I thought I would experience fun moments preparing for matric fair with the rest of the members, but most are committed in the matric fair main comm, internships and other CCA, While I purposely requested to be freed from RA duty during the matric fair so that I could commit to the CCA in which I'm one of the management committee.

Cibai, worse still, there was an ongoing politics saying that there should me more locals in the committee since the INDONESIANs tend to go back during the breaks and stuff, but in the real fact most of the time, the ones jaga-ing the booth for matric fair were INDONESIANs.. What are you getting at if we are more committed than you are, it's fucking unfair to discriminate by nationalities if you can't get your own arse committed.

Maybe not a lot of people will read this but, if you feel that you are one of the people I condemn, no matter which nationalities, years, faculty you are in, I'm telling you this: I expected something more. Something more fun, something more engaging and something more that would make me say, "I'd love to stay in this club" not "I wish my term would end soon so that I can pass my responsibilities to other people".

A birthday

Today is someone's birthday.
I believe most of you know whose birthday it is today and it's one of the days that I haven't been really looking forward into.

Well, Alice, another fellow resident assistant from the same residence had already "jio" (hokkien for invite to join) me to celebrate her birthday. I smsed her at 10pm sth saying that I wouldn't be joining the celebration. I provided no reason, and the real reason was I was playing dota with my friends and couldn't be bothered to join.

I haven't seen a person who had been publicizing so much of his/her own birthday. Since few weeks ago, from the prep. of welcome fest, she's been signaling to everyone when someone from us actually suggested that we make celebration of june and july baby as a part of welcome fest. That's where she added: "what about August babies?? My birthday is in August u know~~".

And when we were preparing the drawing for the finale of our welcome fest, she started it again: "I wonder I what I should do on my birthday? it's coming near.. What should I do, HM, Ken, William, etc.?? asking around different RAs probably just to make sure that we are "reminded".

AND even when we were in the midst of waiting the afk-aldo, looking at my homepage to see the comments of the pictures that I uploaded and everyone else's wall status, I already saw a note at ard 10sth titled "My Birthday Wishlists" and guess who wrote. What's the content? You think I'd bother to read??

10.30 am, another status post. "In one and a half hour I'm turning to 21, I'll be always 21, forever 21". Sorry to lazy to check whether it's the accurate re-write or not but it's sth like that. What the hell.. Even if aldo didn't say that adel said that she's already 22, I wouldn't have remembered.

12am I was still playing dota and as I said, I wasn't going to join to celebrate her birthday.

1sth am, I told the rest that I was going to sleep already, just in case, not to forget to wish her a happy birthday of which not doing so will result in being nagged throughout the year like the other RA "why u didn't wish me a happy birthday?", I wrote and wish her a happy birthday on her wall. Upon opening her profile page to write on her wall, she already set her profile picture to the picture of her with 6 of the other RAs who celebrated her birthday.

Morning, few minutes ago, I'm doing my duty at cblc right now, she posted a reply.. " Thank you for your birthday wish =)
Hahaha... you will be forgiven if you give me a birthday present ;-p Lol". Just because I apologized because I know that Alice celebrated her b'day and I was not part of it on purpose (of course without her knowing since i didn't give any reasons or excuses).

Jane, another RA, on the day before, asked me whether I was going to join for the celebration or not and of course I replied, "probably no." which actually meant "definitely no" but I was doing some hedging so that the answer is not rude.
Jane, in the other hand, said something like,

" anyways, you probably had too much of her since you are in the same residence with you, so don't worry, I won't blame you.."

then I asked
"I am a bad guy or some people can't just take it?"

she replied " it's true that some people, or rather some guys couldn't stand her. You are not bad, just normal I guess."

I entered this line on the conversation window to represent myself
"You are not bad, just not as nice"
probably my favorite catchphrase of the month!~ haha..

Too bad for you someone, but actually I'm not a bad guy.. I'm just not as nice.

Photoshop and Phriends

So basically I've just noticed an analogy between your photoshop skill (or maybe some other software) with how you call a person related to you.

So, what is your relationship with photoshop?
*Stranger:
We all know we are humans, humans have two legs, two hands, and is a social creature. But that is as far as you know that guy: just another human.
-
Like other generic softwares, we all know they have save function, windows, view, help and that is how far you know photoshop: just another photo editing software

*Acquaintances
Oh well, I know that guy, he's from this place, he his hobby is this and that, this is his favorite food, his working at this place, etc. I know him but those are as much as I can tell you because we don't really hang out together often.
-
Oh yeah, This software is a photo editing software, it has selection tools, it has filter, it has twisting capabilities, it has different colors and brush, I only know the basics and probably that is it.

*Close Friends,
We eat together, work together, hang out together so often that I might know lotsa more things about this guy. Sometimes since I hang around with him, he unfold his secrets just to let you know more about himself.
-
Oh yeah, I use the software so often, sometimes, I have my meal when I'm still using the software in front of my computer, I learn shortcuts keys to do things faster and easier. I know more than the basics, I know some techniques as well!

*newlyweds
I know this guy in and out since I spend most of my time with him/her because I love him/her so much.
-
I think myself I'm a master of this software since I spend so much time with it and I do so because I love it.

*divorcees
We were once married, of course I know him in and out but probably there are a lot more things that I don't know, and there are too much things that I know about the counterpart, too much things that I don't like.
-
I was once a master of this software, I know it so well that I find features that are better off offered by other softwares, and there are features that I despise. That's why I'm using other software now.

----
Probably for me and photoshop, we are still close friends only =p
